ALONENESS

Calm…
Quiet…
Solitary.

Once again the rain has washed it all.
All of what was done,
the heat, the noise, the life lived.
All washed with the rain.

Tonight there are no stars, no moon, no life,
just the soft, embracing drizzle watering the rock road and wooden roofs.

Calm…
Quiet…
Dark.

No light above the city… not tonight.

Closed.
So closed no one may come with her tonight.
So closed she will consume darkness.

Tonight she is gloom,
she is lonely,
Tonight, she is the only one up.

Wet, so wet the avenues have become rivers,
So wet gardens have become pounds
So wet she’ll have no company.

And there she goes,
As every May night, alone.

Calm, quiet, solitary.
Just as her people, just as she is.
